About Danielle
Danielle Kogan graduated from the University of Vermont in 2024 with a degree in Animal Science and minors in Studio Art and Applied Design. Originally from Huntingdon Valley, PA, she now lives in Burlington, VT. Danielle has long been fascinated by the intersections of animals, medicine, research, and art: an interest that began in childhood and evolved into a multidisciplinary approach to science communication.

While studying anatomy and physiology, Danielle began drawing anatomical figures to help herself and her peers better understand complex topics. That experience revealed how powerful visuals could be in enhancing comprehension and sparked her interest in the field of medical illustration. A single Google search introduced her to the profession, and a lightbulb went off. She quickly recognized it as the perfect way to combine her love of science, creativity, and human connection.

To strengthen her visual communication skills, Danielle pursued minors that taught her design theory, visual marketing, and applied art. She has hands-on experience with illustration software such as Procreate, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign. Her physical art includes graphite, charcoal, watercolor, conté crayons, colored pencil, ink, and acrylic.

Throughout her studies, she intentionally wove science illustration into academic work; translating biology coursework into public health visuals. A highlight was her final project in a data visualization course: Delayed Diagnosis in Women, which used Flourish and hand-drawn illustrations to communicate systemic disparities in women’s healthcare through clear, accessible storytelling. She hopes to further explore how medical illustration can improve patient-provider interactions: particularly around trust, understanding, and care outcomes.

Beyond medical illustration, Danielle is passionate about the role thoughtful marketing and design can play in community building and social impact. With over five years of experience in social media marketing and content strategy, she has built strong relationships with the local Burlington community and developed campaigns that prioritize accessibility, education, and engagement. Danielle brings a unique blend of scientific curiosity, creative communication, and a drive to make complex ideas approachable and human-centered.
